Red Wine, 75 cl, Rhône Valley, Crozes-Hermitage AOC
Northern Côtes-du-Rhône
History
The Crozes-Hermitage appellation is the largest vineyard area in the Northern Rhône Valley. It extends across 11 communes in the Drôme department on the left bank of the Rhône River. Once devoted primarily to fruit cultivation, this vineyard was granted its own AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) status in 1937.
With "La Maurelle," Maison Bouachon showcases the full typicity and character of this Northern Rhône appellation, where Syrah is the only grape variety authorized for red wines.
Vineyard Location
Sourced from the southern part of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, the vineyard is planted on terraces of rounded pebbles deposited by the Rhône River, along with loess soils.
Wine Characteristics
Grape Variety:
100% Syrah (single-varietal wine).
Syrah is the sole grape variety used in our "La Maurelle" cuvée.
Winemaking:
The work begins in the vineyard with the selection of plots benefiting from the best sun exposure. The Syrah grapes undergo a semi-carbonic maceration for approximately twelve days at controlled temperatures, with frequent pump-overs to ensure optimal extraction.
Ageing:
After fermentation, the wine is transferred to our cellars in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where it is aged in oak barrels for 9 to 12 months.
Food Pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with hare stew, coq au vin, and full-flavored, mature cheeses.
Serving Temperature
Serve at a maximum of 16°C (61°F). Decant approximately one hour before serving.
Cellaring Potential
Enjoy now or cellar for 3 to 4 years. Store bottles horizontally in a cool, dark place, away from direct light.
