Overview

The other Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the estate, Les Sinards is crafted primarily from Château de Beaucastel's young vines (under 20 years old), complemented by fruit from two nearby vineyards. Predominantly Grenache, this wine embodies the elegance and character of Châteauneuf-du-Pape while remaining approachable in its youth.

The 2023 Vintage

The 2023 vintage benefited from remarkably balanced weather conditions. A mild winter was followed by a dry spring and a warm summer, particularly in August and September. Despite limited rainfall, the grapes reached optimal ripeness, allowing harvest to begin on August 22 under perfect sanitary conditions. Picking continued through October 4, with the final fermentations completed on October 23. The resulting wines are beautifully balanced, combining richness, concentration, and power with vibrant freshness. A vintage of outstanding promise.

Vineyard & Terroir

Les Sinards is produced from the combination of three complementary vineyard sites:

  • The young vines of Château de Beaucastel;
  • The Clos de Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard, featuring southwest-facing Syrah;
  • A Grenache vineyard located in the Grès sector, approximately 4 km from Beaucastel.

The vineyards are planted on Miocene marine molasse covered with Alpine rolled pebbles, with one parcel on Urgonian limestone. The young Beaucastel vines produce more generous yields, resulting in a wine that is expressive and approachable at an earlier age. The Clos vineyard contributes spicy complexity and structure, while the Grès vineyard, with its heat-retaining pebbles, enhances ripeness, finesse, and elegance. Unlike Beaucastel, Les Sinards is predominantly Grenache.

Winemaking & Ageing

Ripeness is carefully monitored throughout August through berry sampling and tasting to determine the ideal harvest date. Each grape variety is harvested separately and meticulously sorted upon arrival at the winery.

Part of the Syrah is fermented as whole clusters, while the remaining Syrah and all Grenache are destemmed. Fermentation takes place in both wooden and stainless-steel vats using the same methods employed for Château de Beaucastel's wines. Following vinification, the wines are blended and matured in traditional oak foudres for two years, allowing them to develop depth and complexity.

Grape Varieties
